Afterall, <em>what you focus on, expands<\/em>. It\u2019s true in pursuing goals, winning new business, and definitely: hiring. When it comes to finding your ideal employee, this starts with getting clear on what you need and who you want, then packaging it in a job post. So today, I&#8217;m going to walk you through how to attract your dream employee, including a live example of a job post. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I really believe: whoever you\u2019re looking for, is looking for you too. But are you speaking their language? Showing up where they hang out? Because counter to what hiring platforms say: hiring isn\u2019t about casting a wide net. It\u2019s about being so clear on what you need, crafting that into a magnetic, and placing it precisely where your ideal person sees it. When they read it, they should think, <em>\u201cThat\u2019s me.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Note: this is <em>the precursor<\/em> to our Masterclass on Wednesday. You probably feel like it&#8217;s a core part of you. So, once you\u2019ve taken it as far as you can or want to alone, the question is: <em>How do you find people who will care for it with the same standards, excellence, and sense of responsibility?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The answer is precision and intentionality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You attract the right people when you\u2019re crystal clear on<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What your business needs,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Who you want,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A job post that speaks directly to them, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Where you&#8217;re ideal person spends time (not necessarily looking for a job).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Your Attraction Plan Needs 3 Things:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Dream Employee Worksheet*<\/strong><br>Who you\u2019re trying to attract\u2014their goals, fears, values, and what excites them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Job Posting, with Marketing in Mind<\/strong><br>This is the first invitation you&#8217;re extending. Your first impression. When you beckon someone over to say, \u201cI want to get to know you. Yes, <em>you<\/em>. Do you want to get to know me too?\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Relationship Mind Mapping*<\/strong><br>Map out the people, organizations, and centers of influence that will put you in front of your dream candidate.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">*In this post, we won&#8217;t focus on the Dream Employee Worksheet, nor Relationship Mind Mapping. It\u2019s the same process! For each section, I\u2019ll include an excerpt from our <a href=\"https:\/\/zudigitest.com\/ellevatedoutcomes\/were-hiring-a-strategist-experience-in-2-business-functions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Strategist Job Post<\/a>, so that you have a learning-in-action example of a job posting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Put Your Candidate at the Center of the Story<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In <a href=\"https:\/\/storybrand.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Storybrand<\/a>\u2019s language: make your candidate the hero.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tactically, this means writing in 2<sup>nd<\/sup> person, using &#8220;you.&#8221; Speak directly to your ideal employee\u2019s goals, motivations, and fears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Example<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>We may be for you, if you\u2019ve operated a business or worked in 2+ business functions.<\/em> <em>Perhaps you\u2019ve been responsible for operating a business (unit), or you\u2019ve worked across multiple functions\/specialties throughout your career. You\u2019re seeking a more strategic role, where you can pull diverse technical skills together and remain engaged and on your toes, as you achieve deep and tangible impact across a portfolio of clients.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Speak Like a Human<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Show your brand\u2019s personality in the tone. Demonstrate your values. Show that <em>you <\/em>know what your job post means. When you\u2019re tempted to talk in generalities or business lingo, ask a brain buddy (who doesn\u2019t know the role) to pick it apart and challenge you. Here are a few of my favorite questions in this exercise:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What does that really mean?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When they\u2019re sitting at their desk, what tasks are this person doing? Paint me a picture.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Define ____________________.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Example<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>A Strategist at Ellevated Outcomes acts as an outsourced chief strategy officer, generating and serving a portfolio of 15 small business clients (solopreneurs to 25 employees). As a Strategist, your goal is to take our clients\u2019 businesses to the next level. This means that over the course of a year+ engagement, you\u2019ll use the Ellevated Outcomes Framework<sup>TM<\/sup>&nbsp;to:&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Help a client articulate their business\u2019s optimal growth point;&nbsp;<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Design a custom strategy to get them there, most efficiently and effectively;&nbsp;<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Execute the strategy with them, side-by-side.&nbsp;<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Mirror Their Mindset<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Does your dream candidate crave stability or flexibility? Travel or regular hours? Coaching or autonomy? What career phase are they in? Your post should show that you <em>get<\/em> them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For new grads or trainees: Highlight training, support, and growth opportunities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For experienced professionals: Emphasize strategic impact and creative challenge.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For contract workers: Call out flexibility and benefits.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Example<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>You\u2019d value:&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Marrying hard work with measurable, direct, human-to-human impact.&nbsp;<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Support for having a life outside work.&nbsp;<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Brilliant, boundary-pushing, and caring teammates who can help you go further than you will on your own.&nbsp;<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Benefit of a \u201ccoaching\u201d-like career with stability, autonomy, and flexibility.&nbsp;<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Seeing, feeling, and experiencing the real, tangible impact of your work, internally and externally, every day.&nbsp;<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Show the Growth Path<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even if your company is small, signal that the role isn\u2019t static. Use phrases like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cIn this role, you\u2019ll grow by\u2026\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cWe\u2019ll support you through\u2026\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cYou\u2019ll evolve as\u2026\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pro tip (learned the hard way): if your role requires traversing <a href=\"https:\/\/zudigitest.com\/ellevatedoutcomes\/learning-pit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">learning pits<\/a>, make that clear. This isn\u2019t for everyone, and it\u2019s not for every career and life phase. The growth section should be inspiring but truthful. That means for some, it\u2019ll feel electric. For others, it\u2019ll be a turnoff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Example<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>This role is also responsible for business development, alongside the rest of our Client Strategists. You\u2019ll be expected to grow our portfolio by engaging with your community, leveraging relationships, and developing new connections\u2014even if that\u2019s a little new at first. We don\u2019t expect you to figure this out alone. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>We provide training, tools, and team collaboration to help you build confidence in relational business development. The goal isn\u2019t cold selling\u2014it\u2019s about helping the fantastic people in your orbit connect to the value we offer.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Tell Them What It\u2019s Like to Work With You<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What kind of day will they have? What tools will they use? Who will they work with? Give them a taste of daily life. Who will they report to, and what qualities do they need to thrive in your business culture and with their boss?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Example<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>We choose colleagues who have deep emotional intelligence, a technical strategy superpower, and a genuine desire to help others. Because our team is small, it\u2019s also imperative that those we invite in, will enhance our culture with their emotional maturity. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>This means: you\u2019ve weathered highs and lows in career and life; and can enhance others\u2019 experiences with: perspective, understanding that opportunity lies on the other side of tough moments, and weathering learning pits with grace.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">An Example of a Job Posting Template<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This wouldn\u2019t be an Ellevated Outcomes post without a bit more grounding in the technical side of business. I don\u2019t want to give the impression that a job posting is all about the feels. Let me be clear: this is your business, and you\u2019re hiring someone to do a job for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sidenote: it seems like the new thing in the zeitgeist is calling jobs \u201ccollaborations.\u201d A job post is not a collaboration. You\u2019re paying someone to do a great job, assuming responsibility, and completing a body of work for you.
